Premature Menopause

Most women will experience the natural menopause at the average age of 51. For some women, this part of reproductive life occurs earlier and for a variety of reasons.

This reasons may be caused by:

• Chemotherapy/radiotherapy or surgery
• Infection
• Autoimmune conditions
• Genetic conditions
• Or many times it is unexplained.

A diagnosis of premature menopause (last period before the age of 40yrs) can be a very difficult time both physically and emotionally for a woman.

Women who go through this need special care to minimise their chances of developing conditions related to chronically low oestrogen such as bone loss, cardiovascular disease and infertility.
